Take note of a new source coming on line for genealogy research

.......My latest project is doing indexing for Family Search.  I don't know if you know that they are indexing all of their records so that people might have free access to them on the FamilySearch.org website.  I have worked on a few Canadian census records but most have been 1850 Census from Illinois & Pennsylvania as well as birth and marriage records from West Virginia.  There are new records coming on line all of the time.  It was exciting to do some 1871 Halifax Census records.  I was hoping to come across some names that I knew but did not.

I am letting you know about this exciting new undertaking so that you can let others know.  (I think that they decided to do this as Ancestry.com is no longer free for the Family History Centers and people are having to pay to access information.  For my participation, it is an opportunity to let me 'pay back' for all the information that I have been able to access on the internet at no or very little cost.  Also, it is something that I can do at home at any time of the day.  S. Livingstone

CANADIAN SITES An additional 27,987 'new' historical vital statistics are now waiting for you on www.novascotiagenealogy.com! New content includes births (1908), marriages (1933) and deaths (1958), plus 'delayed' registrations for individuals born in 1908 or earlier but not registered at the time of birth. The delayed registrations are especially interesting - most include several pages of documentation (keep scrolling down...) and the earliest is for someone born in 1830.

Acadia Digital Collections

Acadia’s Digital Collections: Something for Everyone Acadia’s Digital Collections are divided into three sections.  The Digital Archives contains historically significant collections from Acadia ’s Archives such as Handley Chipman, Edward Manning, Silas T. Rand Collections, and the Elizabeth Bishop Exhibit.  The eScholarship section currently contains a selection of electronic honours and Masters theses from the last five years and will be the future home for our faculty publications collection.  The Acadia Communities section contains digital publications arranged by department. It currently includes the Planter Notes newsletter from the Planter Studies Centre and the Canadian Parks Association Archive to name a few.

Nova Scotia Historic Places Initiative
Historic places, such as buildings, cemeteries, parks and bridges, surround us and shape our landscape. They give us a sense of place. Without them, we would lose part of our identity - a tie to those who have gone before us. The Nova Scotia Historic Places Initiative (NSHPI) was established in 2003 to promote the protection of Nova Scotia's historic places. Through training, support and the searchable Register of Historic Places, the NSHPI invites you to help us share our significant past to help shape our future.
Virtual Museum of Canada  As the Virtual Museum of Canada (VMC) turns six years old this month, it continues to welcome new content, including Community Memories exhibits that draw from the treasures found in local museums and the stories of people in the communities they serve.
