Explore Oak Island Display

Dedicated to the memory of the late John Chattaway and members of the Oak Island Tourism Society

John Chattaway was an educator, dedicated supporter of the District and Municipality of Chester, member of the Nova Scotia Legislative Assembly and friend to everyone.  John had many dreams; one was to have permanent tours of Oak Island with an interpretive centre. He started the Oak Island Tourism Society (2001 - 2009).  Chester Municipal Heritage Society built this display and offer it for your enjoyment.

We have attempted to present the long, rich history and cultural significance of Oak Island.  The story and legends are known and enjoyed throughout the world.

Curator Danny Hennigar welcomes Norwegian Petter Amundsen as the first official guest at the Explore Oak Island Display.  Mr. Amundsen has developed a very interesting theory about Oak Island and has produced a multi part movie for Norwegian television, much of it filmed on the famous Island.  An English version should be available soon.
